"Sew" and Tell & a New Contest!

Am I organized or what? Here is something that I just love and I think you will too. It's my fat quarter shelf that I helped design while I was working at Heritage Woodworks. I came up with this idea along with Ellen. I told her what I had in mind and we both set out to make it and this was the end result. We sold many of these while the store was still opened. When she was closing the store this one was left and she gave it to me. So it's the last one of it's kind made at Heritage. It's been sitting in the garage waiting to be hung. Thanks to John for helping Stuart hang this beast. A freind that comes in the Corn Wagon is doing a class at the Quilt Fest on organization and she came in the store asking how we organized our quilting stuff. I told her about my shelf and she liked the idea, so she's coming to take a picture of it tonight to include in her class presentation. It took me all of last night folding and sorting through my stash to get them in. It was worth every minute. Look how nice and organized it looks. It's not even full, I still have the top shelf to fill. Can you believe how many this shelf will hold? I'm sure I've got fat 1/4's hiding in different places, but this was all that were floating around in bins and baskets in my sewing room. Needless to say I have some floor space now! I really got the cleaning bug and dejunked alot of stuff in the process.
I re-organized my magazines and books and put them in locker baskets, they now sit on one of my prized pocessions, Stuart's mom's cedar chest. I am so lucky to have something like this to decorate with. If I am figuring right this cedar chest is almost 61 years old.
Just how many fat 1/4's do you think are in this shelf? So here's the contest. In honor of my Blog Anniversary that is coming up on the 9th of September, send me a comment on how you organize your fat's(if you are a quilter) and the number of fat 1/4's I have in my shelf. You don't have to be a quilter to participate, I want everyone that reads my blog help me celebrate such a big milestone for me. I didn't think I could keep this up for a year, but I have conquered! Tell all your blogging friends about my fun little contest(maybe post about it on your blog, if you do please include that in your comment). I would love to get lots to participate. Oh and don't forget to leave your e-mail address so I can contact you if your the winner. I will determine the winner on the 9th. You have a week to enter so get counting! Oh, by the way don't forget to look at the bundles in the top shelf. I think those are fat's too! I bet you already know what I've picked out for the prize. How did you know it would be a fat quarter bundle of something new we just got in at the Corn Wagon? I can't wait to hear from all of you. Happy Sewing, Shannon

  1. Wowsers! I am estimating 350. I thought about counting, but it is just too intimidating.

I don't quilt, mostly because I don't have the space or time. The closest I get is quilting play mats for baby showers. But I don't make blocks for those. One day I won't have any toddlers in my home and I will do real quilts.

  2. Oh my goodness. I love the shelf. It is fun to have them on display like that . I don't have nearly that many but what I do have I just put in the plastic rolling drawers.
    My guess is 393.

  12. If leaving them in the bag counts as organizing then, that's how I do it. My guess is 180.

  13. My guess is 371. I just keep my fat quarters in the plastic rolling drawers. Not nearly as cute as your shelf.
