Let's Swap!

I'm sure some of you have noticed that the Amy Butler Apron Swap badge is gone from my side bar. Well, because this is the apron I received in that fun swap. Thank you so much Kymberley. This apron is one of the cutest I have received yet. She did a beautiful job on it. She also sent some notecards and a Stampin' Up Valentines card. This is so funny, but we made this same card at Kira's last month. Kira was going to try and see if the same girl's that did the cards and this swap had by chance sent them to Kymberley in her package. Isn't that kind of weird? And this is the apron I sent out to Amber in MI. It's the cooking/craft pattern that I have made several of. It's fun and practical. I trimmed it with brown bias tape and of course added the pink ric-rac to add some zest to it. The fabric is from Amy's Lotus collection. These have been some of my favorites for along time. I'm glad I ran onto some when I was looking for the fabric. I also sent a shopping list notepad and some recipe cards along with a couple of recipes.

Now I'm off to sew my diaper bag for the AB Bag Swap that me and the girl's did. Kaitlyn and Kira have both sent the packages to their partners. They both did darling bags. Here is a picture of Kaitlyn's bag that I helped her sew on Monday in Levan. She did a really good job on it, she must have a really good sewing teacher!! jk Stay tuned for pictures of my finished bag.

I think this turned out adorable, her partner is going to love it! Who wouldn't, right?

White house Valentine's Dinner

Love is in the air at the White House. We all met for dinner on Sunday evening to celebrate Valentine's. Jacob was is town for the weekend so we like to get together to do things when he is home. We missed having Angie here with us (the joy of having to work for a living gets to all of us). We had a yummy dinner and then we set everything out on the counter to decorate sugar cookies. This is something the kids like to do. Hatch just couldn't wait to get started. This is something I started last year and he hadn't forgot about it. So messy but it's sooooo fun! This is the decorated dinner table. I like to go all out for this dinner, just about as much as our Thanksgiving dinner.

Hatch spotted this huge Hershey Kiss on the table. I told him he could have it if he shared it with Karas. Who doesn't love chocolate. He gave me a big thank you "KISS" for it, then in about 2 or 3 bites it was gone!Sharing a big kiss with Karas! Oh yuck, do I have to!

Karas is into saying prayers lately. This is her after dinner prayer. Mommy, Daddy, Mommy, Daddy, Amen.

Let's decorate those cookies!

Only a face a Grandma could love. Karas just kept frosting this same cookie over and over again. She had frosting all over including her shirt front.

Even little Miss M got in on the action. She even got a taste of the frosting off her cookie.

Jacob isn't a big fan of sugar cookies (what? not a fan, what's wrong with this kid) but he jumped right in to decorate some for Angie to take back to Idaho.

J + K = one cute couple!

In all the years Stuart and I have been married he never liked all that sweet stuff on his cookies. So everytime I make them I leave several unfrosted for him. I decorated this cookie in honor of him. Look how cute my side is!

What fun Hatch had, he likes to use initials, so all of his cookies were branded with an "H". Thayne missed out on all the fun, he was napping just about the whole time they were here.

After the mess was cleaned up, the kids got to open their Valentine gifts. Hatch got some K-Nex, Karas got Cinderella dress up stuff, and the babies got a cute little replica of some old Fisher Price toys. Thayne's was the barn and McKinley's was the cute house they had out years ago.
Hatch got the master truck builder - JACOB - to help with the new truck project!

Karas was so cute, she loves being dressed up and was just adoring herself in the bathroom mirror. What a little princess she is.

All in all it was a fun filled day with lots of love and laughter.

Sewing, A Family Affair!

I'm glad my girls both like to sew. Kira has been sewing since she was in Jr. High. But just lately she has picked it up again. Hum, having 3 small kids can sometimes put things on hold! She is a beautiful sewer and does a great job on everything she sews. And Kaitlyn took sewing to in Jr. High but it wasn't really her cup of tea. She was involved with other interests. But since her in-laws gave her a machine for Mother's Day last year she has picked up on it again. She is still in the learning process and is loving every minute. She keeps asking me to do some other projects that are easy enough for her. We have all joined the Amy Butler Bag swap that Suzee is sponsoring. Thursday while at work they both popped into see me and to help them pick out their fabric. Kira and Thayne were there first thing as we opened up. It's easier to do some shopping with just one! Kaitlyn and Miss M stopped in later that afternoon. What's a mother to do?, but to have fun with her girl's, they are the light of my life and we have alot of fun when were together. I just wished they both lived a little closer so we could get together and sew more often.



Thayne was just loving all the attention from my co-workers as well as the customers in the shop. He thought it was just ok to sit here on the cutting table.

He didn't sit very long though, there was lots more to see around him, he would of crawled off the table if we would have let him.

Thanks for starting my day off right Kira and Thanye, and thanks for the Diet Coke! It got me through the day. Notice the quilt above Kira's head, it's beautiful. I'm taking the class in March, it's going to look awesome in my new family room. Come join me in the class. I'd love your company.

And here is Miss M and myself, Kaitlyn always has her looking like a million bucks. Isn't she adorable. She has the biggest blue eyes and you should she her eyelashes, they look like Kaitlyn curls them!

Look what I can do Grammie! Miss M is only 4 months old and is starting to sit up all by herself, I was afraid she was going to fall off the counter. Isn't a Grandma suppose to worry about those kind of things? So cute.

I'm a big girl now! Watch out world here I come!

They both got the fabrics for their bags, they are going to be really cute. Their partners will be quite impressed with their bags I'm sure. Kira sent me a text picture later in the afternoon showing off her completed bag. How did she do that? It's adorable. I'm going to Levan on Monday to help Kaitlyn with her bag.

Well after all the visitor's had left for the day I decided to pick out my own fabrics, isn't it cute. All of our bags are in the same color scheme from the Daisy Chain line from who else, Amy Butler. My partner wanted a new diaper bag, so here goes a challenge, I've never sewn a diaper bag. The pattern I picked out looks quite simple to make. Wish me luck!

Sewing with Kaye

A few weeks ago I got a phone call from one of my good friends, Kaye. She called to compliment me on my blog and all the fun stuff that I had been doing. She said she couldn't leave a comment, she had to tell me in person. I've blogged about Kaye a few times in the past, she has just finished up her treatment sessions and is ready to do something different. During our phone call she said that she was overwhelmed with all the love and support she had gotten while she had been sick and that it was her turn to give back in some way. She asked me if I could teach her something new like sewing. I can't really explain the warm feeling I was feeling inside of me, I am honored that she would ask me to help her in her mission. "Of course I will" I told her, what an awesome thing to see when someone learns something new. "Let's get started" I told her. Kaye said she really wanted to do a simple quilt project and she really liked the quilt I had done for Jacob for Christmas. I told her this was an easy one and that she would be able to do it. She came to the Corn Wagon on Saturday and got her fabric and thread. She is making it out of the Hello Betty line we just got in. This quilt is made from a layer cake so it's fairly simple to cut out. It's called Floating Square.
We have set aside Wednesday's to sew, she will be coming to my place and bringing her machine.

I showed Kaye how to cut a couple squares and then she was on her own. She did a great job cutting now let's see what she can do at the sewing machine. I sewed the first block so she could see how it was put together, then I set her free on the Mercedes(sewing machine).

You sew girl! She did it, only having to unpick one seam. Good job Kaye.

Look at that face! I'm just as proud of her as she is. I think she's going to be a good student. Her homework for next Wednesday is to complete 5 blocks. I bet it hasn't dawned on her that she forgot her thread! How can she do her homework without it? What a nice afternoon we shared together catching up and laughing. I'm already looking forward to next Wednesday. I will be blogging about Kayes sewing quest, so watch for them as we sew along on her quilt.

Meeting new Blog Friends!

Wow! What a fun workday at the quilt shop. Everyday at lunch time it's the same question,"Did you bring a lunch?" "No did you?" "How about you, "Well I could eat one of my frozen dinners that's in the freezer", Suzanne replies. " Or have you got a better offer she asks". We pull out the menu binder, this binder is chuck full of menu's from all sorts of places from Chinese to Mexican, pizza or burger joints. Let's see how about the Italian Place, the only problem is that it's in Spanish Fork and were in Springville. None of us really could leave the store that long so I called my sweet husband to see if he would run and get it. It's just across the street from our business, in about 20 minutes we had our lunch. Isn't that the nicest thing ever. Your the best Stuart, thanks for doing us that huge favor.

I was just finishing lunch when Alice, a good friend of mine came in the shop to pick out her Amy Butler fabric for the Bag Swap that we are both in. Her partner is going to love what she picked out for her bag. Thanks for stopping by Alice, I had a fun time helping you out with your selection. Great choices.

A few minutes after Alice had gone this cute lady came in the store, she smiled at me and went about picking up some fat quarters. Every now and then I would see her looking at me. She came up to me and asked "Are you Shannon?" I said, "Yes, can I help you?, and in the cutest way she replied, I'm kind of embarassed to say this but I look at your blog all the time." She found me through a apron swap we did last fall, and has been following me since. She had read that I worked at the Corn Wagon so she came in to introduce herself. We chatted a minute and I asked her what her name was. She is Daurene and she lives in Orem. Come to find out she is also in the Amy Butler Bag Swap, so that's two that came into day to let me help them with picking out their fabrics. Oh my gosh, she has the cutest pattern she is going to be using, and the fabric she chose is adorable. Her partner is one lucky lady to have gotten Daurene, she's going to love her bag too. I like making new friends even if they are blog stalkers! jk Daurene, I'm so glad she came in to meet me. I hope she comes in more often now, and I know I'll keep in touch with her through her blog site. Thanks for sharing it with me Daurene. See you soon and happy sewing! TOUCHDOWN!!

I'm sure most of you had Super Bowl parties on Sunday, not here at the Whitehouse. I guess you could say I tackled a huge project though. I went into my sewing room just to vacum and one thing led to another. I've been wanting to switch things around in the sewing room for a long time and just haven't done it. Touchdown! Yea, for the White Team. The mounds of fabric in the corner are now sorted and put away, the sewing machine is cleaned and moved to a different place, things are rearranged in the whole room. I still need to do a little shaping up, I'll post pictures in a few days. Here are a few pictures of the first quarter, I think I'm loosing the game! Time for a pep talk!

What to do with all these finished quilts! Well not really, they still need to be quilted. I took the old drying rack out because it was taking up so much space, I need something fun to display the quilts though. THINK,THINK,THINK! I need something vintage. Have you got anything to suggest. Check out the huge spool in the corner, this was a find at Heritage, love it!
