All matchy, matchy!

And no I didn't plan this!  But isn't it fun how my pins match perfectly with the quilt I am presently working on. I just thought I'd share this little tidbit of pinning pleasure with you.

I'll share the finished quilt with you at a later date, it's going to be a gift for someone very special whose getting married. Shhhhhhh, if you know who she is don't tell, ok!.

Something for our Veterans

Back in January we got a flyer in the shop asking for donations for bed quilts for a new Veteran's Community Hospital that they were building in Payson, a town about 7 miles from Spanish Fork.  I couldn't wait to jump on the band wagon and get started on one.  They were asking for 108.  Our donations would bloom from one to three.  When I told Stuart I would be donating one in honor of my dad, he suggested we do the same in honor of his Grandpa Bernell Hansen and Uncle Garth Hansen.  The quilts needed to be done in time for the Memorial Day opening.  Our daughter Kira and husband John donated the materials for the first one pictured.  She used a Patriotic line put out by Riley Blake. Kira did a great job on it.  Coming from a very patriotic family she was very pleased to participate in such a great project.

   

This is the quilt I pieced together in honor of Stuarts grandpa.  The border and backing fabric was picked up in a cute little shop called Fiddlesticks in Boulder, Nevada.  The rest of the quilt was pulled from my red, white and blue stash.  Maybe a couple pieces bought new here and there.  A really fun and quick pattern to do.

The last quilt is in honor of my dad.  This was made from several charm packs I had been hoarding for quite sometime, just waiting for the perfect project. It was the Praire Paisley line from Mimick and Simpson.  All I needed was my sashing fabrics and the red solid.  I am pretty pleased with the way this one turned out and I think dad would to.  And a special thanks to our quilters, Marion McClellan, Emiliee Barney and Ramona Sorenson.  They were all beautifully done.

Here I am pictured with all three quilts at the Corn Wagon where they were picking up the donated quilts.  In total they collected over 150 and lots of lap quilts.  They were so pleased with the willingness of the help of so many generous people and youth groups to help make this all possible. 

Thank you veteran's for all that you have done and all of those brave soliders still serving our country for our freedom.  It's the least we could do.

30 Years in Business! The Oil Spout Story

This story started back in 1983 when Stuart and I purchased the Husky service station on 700 North here in Spanish Fork from Willard Nelson.  We were just kids, and people thought we were crazy. We had to do something to survive and take care of our little growing family.  Kira was almost two

 when we took on this new adventure.  Jacob was born in 1985 and Kaitlyn joined us in 1988.

As the kids got older they all had responsibilities around the station.  They earned spending money for the extra things they wanted.  They all worked there until they graduated from high school.

Thirty years later Stuart is still there running the gas station on 700 North.  Things haven't always been easy and we have had our ups and downs but for the most part it's made us very happy.  Thanks to great family, freind and customers we just might survive another 30!!  I guess we will just have to wait and see about that one.

 This is the whole White house gang at our get together on May 16th.  We are so thankful for our kids, our son's and daughter in law for all the love and support they are to us.  Hatch, who is almost 11 is just waiting for the day he can work for Grandpa at the Spout.  It's just around the corner I'm afraid.  The grandkids are growing up just as fast as our kids did. 

 It was fun getting caught up with old employees and hearing stories that haven't been heard in years. 

The Oil Spout will be in good hands with all of these cute boys working there!

 Kira put together a video of photo's take over the years.  That was really fun to watch and remember the days of the remodelings and all the fun times.  The old cash registers and such.

Just because...

Ever have one of those just because I want to kind of days.  My day started off with a headache so that determined how my day would play out.  I didn't get out of my jammies, lounged around and did a little bit of laundry and spent a good part of the day in the sewing room making this cute little sewing caddy.  The pattern was sent to me by one of my Dutch sewing friends, Rennie.

Even though it was written in Dutch I went ahead and made it up as I sewed along.  I am sure some things are different than one showed on the pattern.  Anyways she turned out super cute I think.  I used a Moda Candy pack, which are the 2 1/2" fabric squares.  I have a good variety of these because the Moda designers were giving them away at their booths at fall market last October.  The one I used is the Glamping line from Mary Jane.  The bag takes 44 squares and they only come 42 so I added the pink chevron stripe from Riley Blake.  The best of both fabric worlds I guess you could say. 

The yo yo's were made for an accent and besides I still had yo yo's on the brain from making several hundred for our shop hop.  That's a whole other story though.  Hey, would anyone like to make one of these.  I am thinking about hosting a class here at my house if there is enough interested.  Email me at oohsaahsw@aol.com and I will get the material list out to you.  I am thinking July 10th, that's a Wednesday night.  Class fee will be $15.00, for comfortable sewing there is space for 8.  Hope to see you there.

Two of the many!

Before I left for vacation back in April I needed to complete my class quilts for the Corn Wagon as they were to be turned in while I would be gone.  For my classes I choose a couple fun and easy quilts.  Easy enough for beginners but also fun for the more advanced.  The first is called Vinette and it is a free download on Art Gallery Fabrics website.  The fabrics I chose to use were the blues and greens from the Chickopee line from Densie Schmitt.  Anything she creates I love.

 And this is everything left over from my fat quarters.  Not enough for another quilt, so why in the heck not use them on the back. 

 As you may already know that the binding is my favorite thing on the quilt to do.  Some people dread it, but not me.  Give me more!  This class is on July 17th @ 6:00 p.m. if you are interested.  And guess what if you like this exact one, well your in luck because we just happen to have kits saved for the class.  Look us up at cornwagonquilts.com to sign up for the class.  I would love to see you.

 

 The second quilt is a modern twist on a stacked coins quilt using the Totally Tubular method that Tula Pink uses in her book Quilts from The House of Tula Pink.  I think this book is awesome.  She really covers some great stuff in it.  The photograghy and set up is amazing.  Check it out if you haven't already. 

The fabrics chosen for this quilt were mostly from the Notting Hill collection from Joel Dewberry for Free Spirit.  The color scheme red, teal, grays and gold.  There are a few Moda and Riley Blake fabrics as well.

And of course the backing and the binding.

This class was last week unfortunately, but we still have kits available if you are interested.  It includes 10 fat quarters, 1 3/4 yard solid white and the binding.  Call me or better yet stop in and see me if your in my neck of the woods.

New News!

Let's see, there has been alot happening around the White house the last couple of months.  We have been busy, busy, busy.  But I have also been lazy, lazy, lazy!  To mention a few, the awesome two week vacation with our dear freinds from the Netherlands, the birth of our new grandbaby, quilts, a sisters weekend to St. George, a 30 year employment celebration, and did I mention quilts, lots of quilts!  I have to start somewhere, so let's kick off with the birth of our sixth grand baby. Everyone meet Kord Jacob White, born April 22, 2013.  He weighed 7.5 lbs, 20".  What a beautiful bundle of joy.  Angie and baby got along fine.  We were there for the whole day waiting patiently as grandma and grandpa's do.  You can just imagine the excitement that afternoon can't you! 

 I can't believe my baby boy, my baby boy has a baby boy of his own.  He is going to make a teriffic daddy.  I am so proud of him already.

 This is Kord at 3 weeks old.  He's growing, growing, growing.  We love this little guy to pieces, these photo's just melt my heart.  Isn't he adorable?
