A little snow humor!
Since we got a little dusting of snow last night and it's freezing outside, how about some fun humor to go along with it?

My holiday projects!
Now that the Christmas season is over I can post pictures of some of the projects I was working on during the month. I love giving homemade presents. I like to see the joy in the faces of those receiving them. 
This gift bucket was for nieces and nephews on Stuart's side of the family. I put four of these together and a smaller version of it for Pam & Doc. In the bucket I put all different ingredients and recipes to make some really new popcorn recipes. I will share those with you at a later date. I hope they enjoyed their surprises.
Here he is on Christmas morning with his new quilt. It didn't take him long to break it in, later that afternoon he was all curled up in it taking a nap. I hope he will stay nice and warm in Idaho using his quilt this winter.
I had alot of fun putting these gifts together for all the special people on my list. Did I forget to mention that I love to sew? Now I'm starting on some unfinished projects that have been neglected through out the year. My goal is to finish all the quilts that are started. Not many but some. Find some cute new projects for my Simply Sewing 101 group, and just enjoy doing what I like best, sewing for others.

I hope they enjoyed their surprises.I participated in two holiday apron swaps, one was to be fancy and the other one had to be Christmas themed. The maroon one went to Debye in California and the other one went to Blye in Kansas. They both received their aprons and said they were enjoying them. I'm so glad. 
These fun baskets were for Kira and Kaitlyn. They both have picked up on doing a little more sewing in the last little while so I thought it would be fun to give them something to do as a girl's day out. These are quilt kits I put together for them. I included everything, thread, starch and even the backing. They are in a cute little tote that sits by your sewing machine for all your other sewing supplies.
Jacob can't say "You never did love me anyways"! I finally got a quilt done for him. This one is made in plaids and paisely prints. The pattern is called Floating Squares. I incorperated navy blue cordaroy as the squares and the inside border. Jacob thought that was a neat thing, he said it reminded him of his FFA jacket. At first I wondered if he thought I had cut up his jacket to use. I reassured him that I did not.

Then we included a gift certificate to Naturally Yours for some royal treatments of massages, facials etc. This will be another fun 4 months of girl day outs.
I lined the inside of the bags so they won't get really yucky from their makeup. I used iron on vinyl for the inside, it's fun and easy to use. You just iron it on the right side of the fabric.

The fabric is southwest motifs, their whole house is decorated in the southwest stuff, so when I ran onto this fabric line on the internet I knew it was perfect for them. It's a throw size they can cuddle up in and watch some t.v. Merry Christmas to Doc and Bonnie.

DeAnne is a Librarian for one of the elementary schools here in town, so I made her a cute new book bag to haul her books to and from school. January Simply Sewing 101
For our January project we will be making these cute mitered corner recieving blankets. We have a few expecting mothers in the ward so I thought this would be fun and easy. And if you don't want to make the blanket you can make cute little table toppers as well. These can be made in any size you want. Our class is on January 13th. Start something new this year, like sewing. Come join the Simply Sewing 101 girls for lots of fun, chocolate included.

'08 was GREAT!
Happy New Year to all our friends and family. I thought it would be fun to share some of our memorable moments of 2008. We had some great things happen through out the year, here are some of my favorties:
February, we had our 1st annual Valentine's dinner. This is something we are going to do the Sunday before Valentine's Day from here on out. We had a nice dinner, had a mini chocolate bar and decorated sugar cookies.

On May 1st we welcomed John Thanye Carter into the White house clan, what a little cutie. Then on May 2nd we traveled to Logan to witness something exciting. Jacob graduated from Utah State University. We couldn't be prouder parents and grandparents could we?
Jacob moved away to Idaho Falls making us full time empty nesters now. He's enjoying his job at Harris Publishing and loves to get paid to play!
In June, Stuart went with his best friend Doc Shaffer to film a show for the National Geograpic Channel on finding gold. He took all of our horses for this project. The show aired in November. If you missed it go back to my November posts and watch a little portion of it.
This was a bittersweet day for me, but one I will cherish for a long time. These are the girl's I worked with at Heritage Woodworks, yes I said worked with. This was the last day the store was open. The day was a little emotional for all of us. Ellen closed the store after 22 years in business. I worked for her close to 11 years. What great memories I have of the store and the customers. I miss seeing these girls and just laughing and having fun.
In July Hatch got to try his hand at the Mutten Bustin' at the preshow for the Fiesta Days Rodeo. What a real cowboy he is. He rode the sheep backwards and won the event with all the style points. This was a practice run, he will for sure have a place in the rodeo event this year.
I entered Kaityln's quilt in the Fiesta Days quilt show along with some others. I'm just a little proud of this quilt, my Mom had embroidered all the squares before she passed away. They needed to be put together so I took on the challenge. It turned out just the way I wanted it to. The show was offering one reward this year, fan favorite. You could vote on your favorite quilt in the show. I was so surprised when I went to pick my quilts up, I was told that I was the winner of the award. I started to cry becuase I know that my mom would have been so proud of me and the quilt. I won a $50.00 gift card and I bet you can guess what that bought, your right, fabric!
On September 23rd we traveled to Manti to be with Kaitlyn and Mike as they were sealed together in the temple. What a special day for them and in a few short days they would be blessed with a new little one to join this eternal family.
And here she is, Miss McKinley Kaye Mitchell. She entered the family on September 30th, just 7 days after the temple sealing. What special little angel she is. Another proud moment for the grandparents.
The new license plates are going to say "SEW FUN". Sew stands for something other than sewing, it also happens to be the enitials in Stuart's name, which is Stuart Edward White. Pretty cool don't you think?

When we went to St. George in November we made a little switch in cars. We traded my four door Grandma car in for this fun Mustang GT. I know our kids thought we were crazy, oh well! So far we are loving the car. I hope everytime we go to St. George we don't bring souviners home like this!

Our Traditions
Well better late than never. Another great Christmas season has come and gone at the White house. We hope your Christmas was merry and bright and that it is one you will always remember. We have a few fun traditions here at the White house. For many years my side of the family would spend Christmas Eve at my parents, but since both of my parents have passed away we have started some tradtions of our own. First we ride to the cemetary and place candles on our loved ones graves, this was started some years ago here in the city. What a beautiful sight at night, so peaceful and calm. The wind was blowing a little hard that night so I don't know if our candles made it through the whole night or not. Then we come back here and have dinner which consists of Ebleskievers, bacon, fruit and an aray of other yummy treats. Ebleskievers are a little Danish pancake that are made in a special cast iron pan in the shape of round balls. Then you roll them in powdered sugar and serve with jam. The kids have always loved these and I had started a tradition to make them on the Sunday night before Christmas, well we just moved it to Christmas Eve. I'll share the recipe at a later time. I think you would like them.

This year for Christmas the kids wanted us to open their present on Christmas Eve. What a great surprise. They had a book put together of the years happenings. Needless to say there were a few tears as I read the nice letters they included in the book. This is something we will cherish for a long, long time. I think I have looked at it more than once or twice since Christmas Eve. Thanks kids for such a nice gift, that is the best.
Another tradition that has been in the White house for years is the opening of one gift, yup you guessed it. PJ's are the happening thing on Christmas Eve. Kira's kids had opened theirs up earlier in the day at the Carter party. Kids love new jammies don't they?

Jacob and his new pj's. He probably thinks he's to old for this, not? Even me and Stuart get new jammies too. The pj's Stuart picked out for me this year were really cute and they are so warm too! I know many of you have this same tradtion at your house.
Then after the kids are nestled into the new pj's we read a Christmas bedtime story. I got this idea years ago from my big sister. We all recieve that same book and I write a little message in it and the year it was read. The kids have quite a collection of Christmas books. I try to find some kind of ornament to represent the book, this year our story was The Miracle of the Wooden Shoes. I found some homemade wooden shoes from a litte shop out of Texas on the internet. What a beautiful story, if you get a little time in the next few days, pick it up and read it to your family. I usually watch for the sales after Christmas to get the books for the next year.
Christmas morning, after opening our gifts here we headed to Kira and John's to watch the kids open gifts and have breakfast. We have had "lacey" eggs as long as I can remember. My dad would fix us breakfast every Christmas morning when we would go down there. Kira loved my Dad's eggs, so this is one tradition she wanted to keep doing. Stuart is now the master chef of our breakfast and my Dad's famous "lacey" eggs.
Later Christmas afternoon those who can, gather back at the Whitehouse for the annual ham and potatoes dinner. Is that all we do over the holidays is eat. Of course we do, where's there's family there's food! We hope you have some fun family tradtions of your own, and you enjoyed them just as much as we did ours. It seems that it goes by all to quickly and in another year we'll be doing it all again. I can't wait.

Vintage Christmas
Some of you might know that I love anything that is vintage, I have a old Singer sewing machine in my living room that belonged to my Grandma Thomas, every year for Christmas I decorate it with vintage things I've collected over the years. I have a box of old ornaments, lights, candles, etc. I fill a small bowl with some hard tack candy to go along with the theme. Underneath the machine there are some things that belonged to Stuart when he was a boy, we have his original Twas The Night Before Christmas puzzle and a flip flop doll that was at his house when he was growing up. I also have a cute little red Santa boot that my mom had made on a Clorox bottle cut in half to hold holiday treats. I'm sure she had made it in Relief Society. It was always filled with chocolates that she purchased at Child's Bakery here in town. I can taste the crunchy coconut clusters right now, they were so good. Oh, I miss all those fun stores we had on main street to do our Christmas shopping. There was Forsey's, JC Penney, Christensen's, Talley Ho, Sonoma's, Gambles, Montgomery Ward, I remember my mom doing alot of catalog shopping from that store for Christmas. They were all fun to shop in. Wow have the times changed. I'm so glad I have some of these pricless treasures of days gone by. I love taking them out of the boxes year after year.

It's a romantic full moon, when Pedro said, "Hey, mamacita, let's do weeweechu. "Oh no, not now, let's look at the moon!" said Rosita. Oh, c'mon baby, let's you and I do weeweechu. I love you and its the perfect time, Pedro begged. "But I wanna just hold your hand and watch the moon, " replied Rosita. Please, corozoncito, just once, do weeweechu with me. "Rosita looked at Pedro and said, Ok, one time, we'll do weeweechu." Pedro grabbed his guitar and they both sang.....
