A Mother's Day Poem

This is from an e-mail I recieved for Mother's Day. I thought it was so good I had to share it with all of you. Hope your Mother's Day was a happy one. (Watch this sweet babies eyes) A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?'
God said, "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you.
"The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in Heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy."
God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy."
Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?"
God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak."
"And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?"
God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray."
"Who will protect me?"
God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking it's life."
"But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore."
God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you."
At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked,
"God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name.
"God said, "You will simply call her, "Mom."

Happy Mother's Day to all of you who may be visiting my blog today. I hope your day is filled with all those things you enjoy the most and that your hubbies and kids are taking good care of you because we all know you deserve it. I just wanted to share this beautiful bouquet of flowers that my sweet husband surprised me with on Friday night. When the kids were small Stuart never had a gift for me because I wasn't his mother, but he always made sure he had taken the kids to get that special something that they could give me. Now that all the kids have gone, he started this cute tradition about 3 years ago of bringing home a bouquet of flowers for me. He signs the card "Happy Lover's Day", he said if it weren't for a lover's day I wouldn't be a Mom in the first place! (He might not like me for sharing this little tidbit) I thought this was a great idea. Thanks for the lovely flowers Stuart.
I've been a mother now for 27 years and my oldest daughter, Kira has been a mother for over 6 years! This is my youngest daughter, Kaitlyn's first "official" Mother's Day. It's fun to share such a special day devoted just for us. These 2 cute mom's mean the world to me. I'm thankful they are a part of my life, that we can laugh and spend time together doing the fun things we do. So Happy Mother's Day you two.

Being a Mom can be a little over whelming at times but I have to say it's one of the most rewarding jobs there ever was. Both of my girl's are great little mom's, their kids are lucky to have them as their Mom.

I want to pay tribute to two special ladies in my life. My mom and Stuart's mom. What great examples and inspirations they were to many of us. I love my mom and miss her day to day influence, laughter, and most of all her love. My mom always loved the way I expressed my talents, she liked getting the things I had created for her. I guess you could say that my mom was my number one fan. For believing in me, I will always be grateful to my mom.

I never had the priveledge to meet Stuart's mom, Lela Rae. She passed away before I was a part of his life. I have heard so many nice stories of how genuine her love was for everyone around her, for all of those who took care of her during her many years of being bedridden. I am so thankful for the great example she has been in Stuart's life. She taught him many things in a young boy's life that would help him be prepared to be on his own. Some of these are love, cooking, responsibility, hard working, household chores etc. For this I will always be grateful because Stuart is so much more than this. He shared this cute little story with me today while we were at the cemetary visiting our Mom's. He said when he was little he always bought her a

single red rose and card for Mother's Day and it couldn't be a .50 cent card it had to be a $1.00 card becuase she was the best mother in the whole wide world. To this day he buys her a single red rose. Stuart has always treated me like a queen and now I know why. His mother was one.

So thank you Lela Rae for raising such a great kid, someone I'm glad I can call my husband and freind. To you I will always be grateful.

Lela Rae passed away in August of 1977, just after Stuart graduated from High School.

New recipe!

Boy have I go something real yummy to share with you. It's been quite sometime since I have posted a recipe. But I just got this new recipe over the weekend up at the boutique and just had to share it with you. Deb's sister Becky brought them into us one afternoon to try. I had to have the recipe. They are homemade Twix Bars. Beware of butter overload, but that's what makes them so good, right?

Twix Bars

Step 1: 1 cup butter, 2 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar. You must use butter, no margarine. Cut these 3 ingredients into crumbs and press into a greased 9x13 pan. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes.

Step 2: 1 cup butter, 1 cup brown sugar, 4 T. corn syrup, 2 can sweetened condensed milk.Put in sauce pan and bring to boil on medium heat stirring continously with a whisk. Be carefull this can scorch very easily. Don't worry to much about a few brown specks. Boil exactly 5 minutes. Wait 5 minutes and pour over cookie crust.

Step 3: Melt 1 cup of milk chocolate chip or semi sweet chocolate chips with 1 T. oil. drizzle a few layers of chocolate over top and spread very gently. Refrigerate several hours before serving.

Sit, relax and enjoy. And don't worry about calories!!

"SEW" & Tell Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday! I think I missed "SEW" & Tell last Wednesday due working all week. I'm not used to that busy schedule. I finished up the Bunco gifts I was working on for Deanne so that's what I want to share with you today. They were some really fun gifts and I hope her bunco group enjoyed them. These were the four $7.00 prizes. I filled the hot pad with a fun cookies cookbook, a spatula, washcloth and the dish soap with an apron tied on it. We used the theme of kitchen and aprons. Most everything I got was either from Big Lots or the kitchen outlet store in St. George.

This was the $10.00 prize. I found this fun waffle muslin that is for making dish towels and cloths. I had spotted these on somebody's blog so I thought I'd give them a whirl. I bound them like you would a quilt. I also cut out circles of the fabric I used for one of the aprons and machine appliqued them on the dish towel. These turned out so cute. I need to make more of these right away (like today) for gifts. I put everything in an oven mitt for this prize.

This was the $15.00 gift. It was the craft apron I have made several of. It also had an oven mit and spatula to go with it.

This was the $20.00 prize. This cute little half apron and some cute utensils.

And this was the High Bunco. A full apron with the fun utensil to match. Wow what fun prizes to win. The fabric was so fun and cheerful to work with. It's Spring time and that means its time for...

the HOBBLE CREEK BARN BOUTIQUE I can't believe it's been 6 months since the last show. Didn't we just have Christmas? What a fun weekend getting together and seeing old friends from Heritage Woodworks. We always have so much fun at the boutique, it's something I look forward to every fall and spring.

And here she is our happy greeter Deb, by the end of the day she needs that Diet Coke sitting there! What an awesome lady she is, always so friendly and kind to everyone.

Karen and Judy had a booth full of their Scentsy products. I think I caught her off guard. Their booth did very well. This stuff is so popular right now.

For the last several years Stuart has fixed us a dutch oven supper and brought it up to us on one night of the boutique. Friday night he brought us a yummy supper of turkey, dutch oven potatoes, steamed veggies, corn bread with honey butter. After we treid to shoo everyone out of the doors after closing time, we headed next door to the park and had supper together. What a real sweetie I have. Thank you hun for such a great supper. They all have gotten used to this fun little boutique tradition.

Saturday at the boutique look who came to see me and to do a little shopping. This reminds me of something I used to do with my mom. She loved coming up there with me and my girls. We would take her up and let her shop. I was working the cash register when they go there but I did get to break away for a minute to go shop with them. Now this is something I can start with my daughters and grand daughters. We are missing Little Miss M though. Maybe next year.

There was all sorts of fun stuff to buy at this year's spring show. I did manage to pick up a huge magnet board for my back entry way for a good price and as usual treats, treats and more treats. But I did also manage to find this cute little sign to put in my sewing room. It will go perfect in there. What do you think?
The only thing that would make it even better is, if it were to read Return With... a Diet Coke and Chocolate!

St. George Happenings

Last weekend Stuart and I spent a nice quiet weekend just relaxing and enjoying the warm weather of St. George. This will probably be the last until fall as it gets a little warm there in the summer time. We spent Friday morning at the temple doing a session. The temple grounds were so beautiful with all the spring flowers just blooming about. That afternoon we had lupper at Outback Steakhouse and then we set of to do a little grocery shopping at Harmon's for the rest of the weekend. As we were walking toward the produce isle I spotted this!

Look, it's the Snow West Magazine and who just happens to be on the cover this month? If you guessed Jacob you are absolutely correct. It does a Mom & Dad proud to run onto something like this in the grocery store. I bet everyone thought I was crazy taking pictures of a magazine rack! But it's not everyday you see this in St. George. Exciting huh?

It was a toss up which one to buy, the Snow West Magazine or the Quilt Magazine. I went with the Quilt Magazine just because I already have 2 or 3 copies of the Snow West. I wanted to make sure I left plenty there for customers to buy. Anyways, Jacob always sees to it that we have some before they hit the news stands.

This is how we make cookies St. George style. The box says Heart Healthy but who needs that when the chocolate chips are just a hop skip and a jump from the cookie mixes! You know me and chocolate.

Saturday we took a drive down through Overton and ended up in Las Vegas. Another one of those road trips where you see lots of rocks and sagebrush. Ok, I'm getting the idea that we actually live in a desert! No scenic pictures, sorry.

I know you won't know what this is but there is a little story to go with the picture. My dad was famous for keeping records on everything he did. When he bought something new, when he watered at the farm, sprayed weeds, you now get the jest of his record keeping. Sunday as we were getting ready to leave I shut off the water and put the water heater on vacaction and then I noticed this little paper sticking out of the water softner. I hadn't seen it before so I pulled it out to see what it was. Guess what Dad had started a record of how much salt he had been adding and what day. This had been going on two years, so the last time to his records the water softner hasn't had salt in it for 5 years! Who is suppose to take over this job of keeping the records posted. Yes there has been salt added since then just for the records!! We don't know how much or when.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THAYNE CARTER

Yup, this little guy is turning 1 year old today. What a joy it has been to have this little guy in our lives. He is the most happy baby you will ever meet. Can't you just tell by his smile. He has a perma grin all the time. We just love him to pieces. Here are a few fun snapshots of him through the year. This Grandma thinks the world of him, can you tell?
