Last of 2012!

Yup, I'm still here.  But where in the heck and what have I been doing the last three weeks?  Has it really been that long?  I thought you, my peeps were going to keep me on the straight and narrow way of blogging!  Well anyway I just wanted to share with you my last couple of quilts for the year 2012 and then we will get onto more recent sewing projects and other fun stuff we have been doing here around the White house. 

The first show and tell is a Christmas quilt that hung downstairs during the holiday season.  It was a fast one to whip up and since I already had all the fabric in my stash I figured why not.  I just love the vintage Santa's.  It's a very old Alexander Henry fabric.  Never really had a project in mind until one day I was looking through old patterns.  My favorite pastime I guess you could say, when it struck me that this fabric would be perfect for it.  It's only taken me about 8 years for something this simple to come together.  I really like how it turned out, especially on a whim.

The backing fabric is an older Moda Christmas fabric, but the binding is a new print from the Mama Says Sew collection.  A perfect match.

 The second in the show and tell was made with a special someone in mind.  And you should all know by now who that is. My husband, the one with the curly mustache.  I first heard about this pattern from Emily back in August on one of our field trips, so it's been in the works for awhile now.  I think I even started collecting the fabric for it that same day.  Finally it was time to meet up with April of April Mae designs at fall market, she is a local designer here in Utah, right next door to me in the town of Payson, but we won't hold that against her!  I told her what I had planned and she so kindly gave me the pattern. She is a really fun person to be around and is so talented.  We have so much local talent around here.  We are very lucky indeed.   I call this quilt "My Stache".

 The quilt needed to be a little longer so I added the two striped borders and appliqued V Bar on the wider one.  This is the name of our second business here in town.  It's V Bar Guns & Ammo but I thought that was to long to add.  The one red mustache represents Stuart and if you look closely at the background fabric you can see that it says SEW which happens to be his initials. And might I just add that the upper case "S" is exactly how Stuart writes it. Stuart Edward White.  It is from the Moda line Mama Says Sew from Sweetwater which came out this last fall.  Perfect, huh?  I thought so too.

The backing is very appropriate  a must have for this quilt.  I stumbled onto it at Hobby Lobby one day while looking for things for quilt festival.  A brand new bolt had just made it's way onto the shelf.  Standing in the right place at the right time.  I think it was meant to be, don't you?  Alexander Henry is the maker of this awesome piece.

I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome of this quilt.  I love the feeling I get inside when I give the gift of a quilt.  I just hope they have the same feeling knowing they are loved and thought of every time they are wrapped up in it.

Today, January 4th is National Short People Day.  Wow, a special day just for people like me!   I didn't know there was such a thing, did you?  Have you hugged a short person today?

Completed projects!

I know its been quite sometime since I have posted any projects.  Here are a couple of quilts I have finished in the last month.  Both on display at the shop.  The first one is called Martha's Quilt, a pattern from Kimberbell Designs.  I used Moda's fabric line Little Black Dress from Basic Gray.

It's Layer Cake friendly and super easy to put together.  It would be so cute out of anything. Hey, want to make one in a class? I will be teaching this the end of February at the Corn Wagon.  Check out our class info on the website.  And then I will be teaching it again in March at the annual Pie Plate Patterns Spring Retreat.

The second quilt is called Picture This from  Atkinsen Designs.  Most of the fabric used is from David Butler's, Parson Gray.  I used some homespuns and cordaroy to give it some texture.

These little cuties are pin cushions.  Made for some very special ladies I work with.  These were their Christmas presents from me.  How fun and easy to make. 

And last I have been doing some crocheting around baby blankets.  We are awaiting the arrival of a new grandson in April.  The blanket pictured below I used chenille yarn and went around the whole blanket with a single crochet.

This was baby Kord's Christmas present, I used the same chenille yarn.  By the time April gets here he should have plenty of gifts from this excited Grandma.  And oh yeah, theres still all those baby quilts to make.  What a great way to start off a new year.  What's first on your new years re-SEW-lutions sewing list? 

Christmas Morning!

It's Christmas morning at the White house and kind of quiet.  The sounds of packages being ripped opened, laughing kids or should I say screaming kids that are so excited with the surprises Santa brought them is no longer happening here. Things are a bit different when you are empty nesters.  Stuart didn't disappoint me with his choice of gifts.  He always makes sure I have new jammies like the kids do on Christmas Eve.

One would think the box Stuart is opening is a bolt of fabric.  Maybe it's because this gift was done in secret at work, that means wrapping it there too.

And in that box, a new quilt.  Made especially for him in mind.

Something as a surprise when we opened our stockings.  A Christmas letter from Santa himself, what a fun thing we laughed about.  Oh Santa, your the greatest.

After we finished our gift exchange we headed to Kira and John's for breakfast.  The kids were wound up there.  We finally got to see our sick kids from Nephi.  Still not up to par, but were excited to open their gifts.

Thayne Man couldn't wait for summer to get here to play with his digger.  He wanted it outside so he could start moving the snow for his dad.  What a helper.  This will be one fun toy in the sand box this summer. 

The gifts are plenty, but the best part of Christmas time is the nap after all the excitement, especially



when it's under a new quilt. 



Christmas Eve!

Christmas Eve at the White house brings lots of fun, food and laughter.  The kids get so excited to open gifts so Grandpa and Grandma decided we would open one present even before the party got started.

As far as supper goes we have a tradition of making Ebleskeivers( a danish pancake), link sausage, bacon and fresh fruit.

After pj's are on, it's on with the show.  Here Karas, Hatch and Thayne are opening a special gift from Alex and Yvonne.  They are always so thoughtful with their gifts. 

The smiles proof that they were happy with their gifts.  We missed McKinley, Teegan, Kailtyn and Mike for this years festivities.  They have had that awful bug called the cold and flu at their house.

Christmas Photo's

Yes, these two old geezer's still like to have some fun when it comes time for Christmas pictures done.  Here are a few of our favorites.  Thank you to Create Hope Photography (Shasta and Kiley) for doing such a great job.

 

 Then we used some of them for our annual Christmas card.  And thank you to Kira for designing it for us. If by mistake we didn't get you on our list, we mustache you to have a Merry Christmas, or now it's a happy 2013.

A Hostess Mystery!

Many of you know this already but, it's good-bye to Hostess! Yes that means no more Zingers, Twinkies, Snowballs, Ho Ho's, etc., etc.  But not at the Corn Wagon, at least for now.  When I opened up the cupboard to get cups for my quilt class I found this box hiding on the second shelf.  As we say, "Anything is fair play in the cupboard."  I opened them up and offered them to my students.  Hope they didn't belong to anyone in particular!  Sorry Mary Ann, if they belong to you I couldn't pass them up.  Why is that when you know you can't have something such as Hostess anymore the more you want one, even if it's been forever since you had.

 

And then, when I was putting things away in the office another box appeared.  Where in the heck are these things coming from?  For now we will enjoy them I guess.  Who knows if and when we will ever get to try a deep fried Twinkie.  We should of had one in Houston, girl's!
