New News!

Let's see, there has been alot happening around the White house the last couple of months.  We have been busy, busy, busy.  But I have also been lazy, lazy, lazy!  To mention a few, the awesome two week vacation with our dear freinds from the Netherlands, the birth of our new grandbaby, quilts, a sisters weekend to St. George, a 30 year employment celebration, and did I mention quilts, lots of quilts!  I have to start somewhere, so let's kick off with the birth of our sixth grand baby. Everyone meet Kord Jacob White, born April 22, 2013.  He weighed 7.5 lbs, 20".  What a beautiful bundle of joy.  Angie and baby got along fine.  We were there for the whole day waiting patiently as grandma and grandpa's do.  You can just imagine the excitement that afternoon can't you! 

 I can't believe my baby boy, my baby boy has a baby boy of his own.  He is going to make a teriffic daddy.  I am so proud of him already.

 This is Kord at 3 weeks old.  He's growing, growing, growing.  We love this little guy to pieces, these photo's just melt my heart.  Isn't he adorable?

 

 

 

 

 

"GEAR" up for Baby!

Last month my girls, Kira, Kaitlyn and myself hosted a baby shower for Angie and Baby Kord.  It was great getting together with family and friends to celebrate the arrival of this little one.

For the refreshments we decided to go light finger foods.

For the first time I tried my mini donut maker.  They worked out well, the only thing I would do different would be to use my mom's chocolate cake recipe!  The recipe that came with was just a bit to rich.  Very fun to make.

And then we had an old fashioned candy bar and lemonade.

Angie really did get some nice gifts.  Thank you everyone who came and made this day special for her.

Some lovin for Baby Kord!

In just about 20 days we will be grandparents of 6.  Our son, Jacob and his wife, Angie are going to be first time parents.  We couldn't be more happy for them.  And of course this Grandma had to have a couple of quilts finished by the time he made his debut. What little boy doesn't need trucks, cars and things that go.  The first one is a mish mash of different fabrics pulled from the stash. The focus fabric was bought while at market after I had just gotten the news they were having a boy.  I used a gray for the background.  The pattern was also purchased while in Houston.  It's an all boy quilt that's for sure.

 A binding shot, because of course it's my favorite on a quilt.  Especially because it's striped and on the bias.

 The second, a fun vintage western quilt.  All of these fabrics have been in the stash closet just waiting for the perfect little cowboy.  With the fabrics I used some chenille trim that I sewed down to look like a lasso.  After it was washed and dried it frays out.  A really fun accent to any quilt and it comes in all sorts of colors.  This was a design of my own because I couldn't find the right pattern for the trim.

And there's that striped bias binding again. What is it about them that makes me happy?

Here's a cute picture of the happy parents.  We are excited to have baby Kord join the White house family.  Our first grandson to carry on the White name.  More to come on this happy event.

They have arrived,

here in America.  Yvonne, Alex, Rennie and Rene' landed yesterday in Chicago after a long flight from the Netherlands.  They will pick up their RV's and start on their 3 week journey.  A week from today we will all be meeting in Moab to start a 2 week sight seeing vacation.  From Moab we will travel to many of  the National Parks, Las Vegas, St. George, Bryce Canyon and back here to our place for a few days. 

Oh, and I forgot to mention that we will be visiting the quilt shop (It's Sew Moab) there in Moab where this fantastic friendship all started, back in 2009.  So looking forward to it.

The Queen Bee Quilting Bag

Isn't this an awesome bag?  I found the pattern on the Moda Bake Shop while searching for a bag to teach at the annual Pie Plate Pattern's Spring Retreat.  It's a huge bag, as you can see in the pics.  By the time I get this up on my shoulder I have about 6" before it hits the ground.  

 It uses 1 charm pack of your favorite fabric line and yardage of two prints that coordinate.  I used Aneela Hooley's Sew Stitchy for my charm pack and the grey pins fabric for my lining and handles.  For the back side of my bag I used yardage from the Oh Deer line.  Both fabrics are Moda.  I did make a few minor changes to my bag.

It holds my cutting mat, acrylic extension table, rulers, iron and a whole lot of other sewing supplies that I might need to take to sewing retreats.  You will definately feel like a Queen Bee when you show up at your next Bee or quilting class sporting this bag.
