Let's Rodeo!
Are you ready for some rodeo action? At the White house we love this time of year. This is something we look forward to all summer. We have been going to the Fiesta Days Rodeo for many years, almost 30. This year was no exception. The kids just have a ball sitting up close and getting in all the action. This year we invited some long time friends to attend with us.
Aren't we fortunate to live in a country where we can have these freedoms to attend activities such as these.
Hatch and one of the bull fighters. See, now you know why the kids like sitting so close. Hob knobbing with the clowns and cowboys is always a plus. They even get a little dirt action at times.
This cute little boy is Carson Wright. He is the cutest little cowboy around. He was just as crazy as the clowns.
Night #2
After the quilt show on Saturday afternoon it was time to get ready for some more rodeo action. I think Yvonne and Alex enjoyed the night with us. Boy did we have a surprise for them!
We surprised them with having the rodeo announcer recognize them in the audience as coming the farthest to the rodeo. I think they are blushing don't you? What a fun night we had with the kids and Yvonne and Alex.
The kids and the clowns. It's pretty hard getting these little ones to stay still for a picture. But we try anyway.
I had bought tubs of cotton candy for the grandkids but we found out they didn't have the taste buds for it. Are these my grandkids? How can you not like this stuff? Kaitlyn and Kira always looked forward to the 24th celebration just so they could have this sticky treat. Eat til your hearts content. Silly girl's!
Jacob and Angie couldn't resist the cotton candy either. It's melt in your mouth yummy!
Welcome to Utah!
Here are some close up pictures of the Welcome to Utah quilt I made for Yvonne and Alex. I have had this Utah fabric in my stash for a very long time, in fact I just about got rid of it last year because I hadn't done anything with it yet. What made me didn't, I'm not sure. I'm certainly glad I didn't, it was a perfect piece to start a welcome quilt for our fine guests.
For the inside border I used a yellow print and the outside border I used a royal blue to tie in all the colors of the Utah print. The backing was a Michael Miller black and gray dot.
The binding was in my stash too. It is a Michael Miller stripe that I bought when I was working at Creekside Needle Arts. And then I added one of my labels and dated it 2010.
Along with the quilt we put together a welcome basket full of things representing our state, the Beehive State. It also happens to be the name of Yvonne's sewing Bee. This made for a fun and yummy gift basket. We put in things like Raspberry Jam, Boysenberry syrup, scone mix and pancake mix. Chocolate covered cherries from the Red Barn in Santaquin and honey butter. I included a Bee key ring and notebook. I also included four 1/2 yard cuts of some really fun bee related fabrics that I found at Deseret Book. Also inside was a Lehi Rolling Mills brownie mix and a cute spatula with of course, bee's on it. We also included a jar of Stuart's seasoning. I tied it all up with a big bow and added this unique stained class ornament also found at DB. I had bought Yvonne a little gift at market so I gave that to her as well, it was a charm pack and a necklace with an intitial charm and I'm a material girl charm. While she was at the shop I gave her a bee charm to go with her necklace. Now she can start collecting too!

Fat Quarter Bag!
Everythings coming up bags these days! Last Thursday evening I taught the Fat Quarter Bag at the Corn Wagon. This bag is such a useful bag. It can be used as a pool bag, child's sleepover bag, travel bag, laundry bag, etc. the list could go on and on. this bag holds everything plus the kitchen sink.
Here is Katie, Malin, and JoAnn showing off their works of progress. Not quite finished but oh so close.
Mother daughter team, Nanette and Whitney with their finished bags. These two have been part of the bag ladies for months now. They love getting out and sewing together. I wonder what they are doing with all their bags?
Sharon's sewing buddy Lorraine couldn't make it on Thursday night so she brought her daughter, Ashley with her. They both had the cutest fabric and they also finished their bags. Ashley is going to be using hers for a school bag.
Kim's bag was made for her little girl to use when she goes on sleepovers. I am so proud of all these ladies for getting their bags finished during the class. We have lots of fun sewing together. There will be no bag ladies class in August. We will resume again in September with a fabulous fall line up of bags. You don't want to miss any of them. Check the Corn Wagon website to see whats on the class list for the fall.
See you in the fall!

When life gives you scraps, make a posie!
Last week was one full of classes. On Wednesday I taught my pretty, pretty posie to whole bunch of ladies at the Utah Valley Quilt Guild Fair. This is an annual event that takes place every July. They have different mini classes that you can choose from, they have a quilt auction and they serve lunch and have baked goods for sale. I was asked about 2 months ago if I would teach a technique of some kind. I finally came up with my posie to teach. It was the hit of the fair. Not only did I teach it in the morning, I was asked by the organizer to teach it a second time in the afternoon. Standing room only in both classes.
I am really glad that I had cut about 150 of these little posie kits. I would of been sad if everyone hadn't gotten one.
I'm starting to panic at this point. Not very many yet, but by the time class had started it was packed. Whew! This many would have been just fine by me.
This is a long time friend of mine, Lisa Dunn. We go back a long ways. We both have sewed and crafted together many times. She did a class that day on making things out of old sweaters. A unique and fun class. Oh she is so clever. I just might have to have her come to my simply sewing class. I bet she would love to do that!
There were more there than I thought I would know. Here's Lynn and Betty and Nettie. I have had these three ladies in bag classes before. It was nice to visit with them. It makes it a little easier to teach when you recognize someone in the crowd.
These two are Spanish Forkers too, Leslie and Jan are long time friends as well. It was good to chat with them. I am so glad they choose my class so we could do so.
I have had this spa robe and slippers hanging around in my closet for sometime now. They were just plain and simple white. So I added a posie to the slippers and to the robe I added the bias trim around the belt, bottom and sleeves and then topped it with a posie.
Very cute I think.
A bunch of the posies on the garden gate. Can you see the really small pink ones, they are little barrets for babies. I cut the squares 1 1/2" by 1 1/2". Small but cute!
You can put these posies on just about anything. I even put them on flip flops.
This is a denim bag I found at Wal-Mart on clearance for $7.00. I made the posies from red and khaki and the sash was a red and khaki stripe. I used vintage silver buttons for the centers and hung a red tassel with the sash. Not so plain anymore.
I make these shirts for McKinley and Karas. Also summer clearance from Target. Using the posies dresses them up just right.
I even blinged out this apon. I added pink tulle to the brown flower and added a shiny button. Sorry you can't see it very well.
Some of the class members in the afternoon class.
At the fair they also have vendors set up. Of course I couldn't come away empty handed. I picked up these charm packs from Konda, she was selling them at buy three items get one free. I didn't get any of these at market so I bought the Pure line from Sweetwater and Fandango from Kate Spain. I thought both of these lines would make cute baby quilts for the new little one we are getting in December. It looks like I will be using the brown and blue Pure line. We are getting a boy!
My other purchase for the day were these braclets made from vintage earrings. I couldn't pass them up, you know me and jewelry. I love anything unique. Aren't they just cute. I wore the earth tone one to work the next day and got so many compliments on it.
I will make sure this event is an annual one to attend. You should to if you live in the area.
Here are some of the many things I displayed with all the posies I've been making.

Another Mystery Bag class!
Last Monday I had the opportunity to teach my mystery bag at Dave's Bernina in Provo. Just 4 showed up for the class but we had lots of fun getting to know each other. This is the same class I taught in St. George back in March.
Isn't this adorable? The fabric she chose was so summery and bright. Too bad she's not going to use it, it's going to be a Christmas present for her daughter. Now that's what I call a lady that's got the ball moving for Christmas. Who can think about Christmas when it's a 100 degrees outside?
These two ladies were awesome sports. Neither one of them had made a bag before or had taken a class. Sharlene and Kaye are sisters can you tell? Sharlene lives right here in Spanish Fork and I have know her for a long time. It was great fun working with them. I hope to see them again sometime.
Mother, daughter team. Maudie and Ashley Bogert. Maudie is an employee at Dave's, she is the one in charge of finding the classes for both shops. Maudie is fun to be around, she's always willing to get me anything I need during classes. I can't wait to spend more time with her in St. George as she is moving there in the fall. Her and her husband are running the store down there.
Everyone's bags turned out super cute. Now see, don't you want to participate in some of this fun too. I would love to see you in one of my classes. Go here for more info on the classes at Dave's. The fall line up is taking shape.

Remember these!
Happy Monday everyone! Oh my gosh, I don't know where my mind is wandering off too. It's lost in the craziness that's going on around here, I guess. Lot's of stuff going on this week, it's going to be a busy one. And in all of it I totally forgot to annouce the winners of the card wallet give away held last week. Jan and Gayle were the two closest winners. Gayle guessed 76 and Jan guessed 70. Congrats to both of you. I will be delivering these to you this week.(I promise I won't forget you!)
Oh yah, the total of them made we 76. It's time to get started on more, there's only about 8 left at the shop. I guess ladies liked them well enough to buy one. Watch out scraps here I come!
